Myanmar Military Conducts Deliberate “Double-Tap” Deadly Airstrike on Chin Village, Killing Six Civilians, Injuring Children
For Immediate Release
Chin State, February 11, 2026 — The Chin Human Rights Organization (CHRO) condemns the Myanmar military junta’s airstrikes on February 10, 2026, which targeted civilians and civilian infrastructure in Thantlang Township’s Tlang Khua village. The airstrikes killed six men and injured at least seven others, including four school children. There were no resistance forces present in the village at the time of the attack.
At approximately 12:00 P.M., a Myanmar military junta jet dropped bombs on a civilian residential construction site, destroying 11 homes under construction and the nearby village medical dispensary. All six victims were unarmed civilians and family providers. Four students returning home from school were among the injured, including one who sustained severe eye injuries.
Witnesses reported that the junta jet circled the area following the initial strike, before conducting a second strike – consistent with a “double-tap” pattern designed to target rescuers and civilians responding to the scene.
Since the 2021 military coup, the Myanmar military has increasingly relied on airstrikes to target civilian populations in Chin State and other ethnic regions.
“This attack demonstrates clear intent to target civilians and terrorise communities,” said Salai Za Uk Ling, Executive Director of the Chin Human Rights Organization. “The deliberate bombing of a civilian village, followed by aerial circling consistent with ‘double-tap’ strike tactics, may constitute war crimes. Those responsible must be held accountable.”
CHRO calls on the United Nations and international community to urgently investigate the attack, cut off the supply of aviation fuel to the Myanmar military junta, and pursue accountability through international legal mechanisms.
CHRO further calls on the United Kingdom, as U.N. Security Council penholder on Myanmar, to convene an emergency Security Council meeting in response to escalating aerial attacks on civilians.
Since the 2021 military coup, airstrikes have become one of the junta’s primary tools of collective punishment against civilian populations.
