Media Coverage of CHRO’s Work (Jan-Feb 2025)
Over the past two months, the Chin Human Rights Organization (CHRO) has garnered significant media coverage for its efforts in highlighting the escalating humanitarian and human rights crises in Myanmar’s Chin State. In addition to Burmese-language papers, international outlets such as CNN, Reuters, USA Today, Al Jazeera, The Diplomat, and The New Humanitarian have spotlighted CHRO’s crucial role in raising awareness of the devastating impacts of U.S. aid cuts on Myanmar’s already dire human rights and humanitarian situation. CHRO’s advocacy has emphasized how the reduction in foreign assistance is exacerbating the vulnerability of ethnic communities, including the Chin, and hampering efforts to provide life-saving aid and support to those affected by military violence and displacement.

We’re constantly looking for alternative funding sources, but as you know, that’s not something we can secure overnight. As a result, our operations have been suspended. For instance, during the diarrhoea outbreak in Matupi Township, we couldn’t send our teams. However, we were able to send medicines to healthcare workers in Matupi through a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, the timing of the outbreak and the funding cuts meant we couldn’t respond as quickly as needed.” |
