On 8 September 2025, Salai Za Uk Ling, Executive Director of the Chin Human Rights Organization (CHRO), delivered an oral statement at the 60th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) in Geneva.

Speaking on behalf of communities affected by ongoing conflict and repression in Myanmar, the statement highlighted the continuing and systematic human rights violations committed by the Myanmar military, with particular emphasis on the situation in Chin State and other ethnic areas.

In his address, Salai Za Uk Ling underscored:

  • The escalation of indiscriminate attacks against civilians, including airstrikes, artillery shelling, and village destruction
  • The targeting of ethnic and religious minorities, forcing large-scale displacement and humanitarian suffering
  • The absence of accountability, as perpetrators of atrocity crimes continue to act with impunity
  • The urgent need for the international community to move beyond statements of concern toward concrete action

The statement reaffirmed that the crisis in Myanmar is not only political but fundamentally a human rights emergency requiring sustained international attention.

A Call for Accountability and Action

CHRO called on the Human Rights Council and UN Member States to:

  • Strengthen support for international accountability mechanisms, including evidence-gathering and universal jurisdiction efforts
  • Ensure continued international scrutiny of the Myanmar military’s actions
  • Prioritize civilian protection, humanitarian access, and justice for victims

By bringing voices from the ground directly to the UN, CHRO continues to ensure that the lived experiences of affected communities inform global decision-making.
